Post-Op Instructions for Root Canals (Endo)

After Treatment:

  • Your endodontic (root canal) treatment is now completed. Take pain medication before the numbness wears off to help maintain an acceptable comfort level.

  • Please do not eat or drink on the affected side for 24 hours

  • You may brush or floss as normal, unless otherwise instructed by the doctor

Discomfort:

  • Discomfort or soreness in the area is normal for 2-3 days and can range from mild to severe. This occurs because of an existing infection and inflammation of the gum and tooth as well as the manipulation of the tooth during treatment. The gums may be sore and the tooth is often tender to biting or chewing. Over the counter pain medications such as Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Aspirin, Motrin, Excedrin, and Tylenol should relieve most of the discomfort (take as directed). Rinsing with warm salt water (1 teaspoon of salt per glass of warm water) will help. Discomfort in the area in no way affects the successful outcome of treatment

  • If antibiotics and/or pain medications were prescribed, please take as directed. If you were given a prescription for pain, it is meant to help you with more serious discomfort only for a couple of days. In the unlikely event that swelling, fever, or severe pain should occur, please call the office or Dr. He’s cell phone.

Filling:

  • A temporary filling may have been placed in your tooth. It is normal for a thin layer of the temporary filling to be chewed away between appointments. An unusual taste can be expected. It is very rare for it to fall out entirely because it is very deep in the canal, but if it does fall out, please contact us as soon as possible. It is important that your temporary filling stays intact until the placement of a permanent restoration.

  • If a permanent filling was placed, please avoid chewing on that side for 24 hours. A crown should be placed within one month of the root canal being completed to protect the tooth against future fracture and decay and to protect the root canal from possible contamination.

• Su tratamiento endodontico ah sido completo. Tome medicamento para el dolor antes de que la anestesia desaparezca para mantener un nivel aceptable y comodo.
• Por favor de no comer o beber en el lado afectado por 24 horas.
• Puede cepillar y usar el hilo dental normal, a menos que se indique lo contrario por el doctor

Incomodidad:
• Incomodidad y dolor en el area es normal por 2-3 dias y puede ser leve a severo. Esto ocurre por una infeccion existente e inflamacion en las encias y el diente, igual a la manipulacion de el diente durante el tratamiento Las encias y el diente podran estar adoloridas.
• Medicamentos para el dolor como Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, Aspirin, Motrin, Excedrin, y
Tylenol deberian de aliviar gran parte de la incomodidad y dolor (tomar segun las
indicaciones). Enjuagando con agua tibia y sal (1 cucharilla de sal por vaso) ayuda tambien. Incomodidad en el area no afecta de ninguna manera el resultado exitoso del tratamiento.
• Si antibioticos o medicamentos para el dolor fueron prescritos, por favor de tomar segun las indicaciones. Si a usted le dimos una prescripsion para el dolor, a sido para ayudarlo con molestias serias solo por un par de dias. Si tiene hinchazon, fiebre, o dolor severo, por favor de llamar a la oficina o al celular de Dr. He.

Relleno:
• Un relleno temporal a sido puesto en su diente. Es normal que una capa delgada del relleno temporal sea masticado entre citas. Se puede esperar un sabor inusual. Es muy raro que el relleno entero se caiga porque el canal es muy profundo, pero si llega a pasar, por favor de contactarnos lo mas rapido posible. Es importante que su relleno temporal se quede intacto hasta que una restauracion permanente sea puesto.
• Si un relleno permanente a sido puesto, favor de no comer en ese lado por 24 horas. Una corona deberia de ser puesta dentro de un mes desques de que la endodoncia a sido
completa para proteger el diente de futuras fracciones y proteger la endodoncia de posible contaminacion.
• Si tiene alguna pregunta o preocupacion, sientase libre de llamar a nuestra oficina para
